Betel leaf may help fight CML - Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
Important notice: You must inform your CML doctor or a qualified doctor if you want to take betel leaf or other product. The material presented here is for information purposes only; it is not a substitute for your physician’s guidance and care.... "A World Health Organization study has found that chewing betel nuts can cause oral cancer ... Excessive use leads to palpitations, warm sensation, increased pulse rate, sweating, .... Prolonged use for many years may increase the risk for oral cancers. The regular use of betel will, in time, stain the mucosa, gums, and teeth. Betel nut is not recommended for those with heart conditions." Extract of BeteL nut from Dr. Ray Sahelian
An alcoholic extract of the betel leaves may help patients suffering from chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). The compound hydroxychavicol (HCH) is the major component of the alcoholic extract of the betel leaves and it might contribute, at least in part, to the observed anti-CML activity of the leaf extract.
Another molecule identified as chlorogenic acid, code-named icb- 101 is also a component of the alcoholic extract.
